Joseph Mongusho, one of the Village Health Teams members attached to Swam said that the government sent 466 million Shillings to Bukwo district of which 316 million Shillings was meant for allowances for Village Health Teams and Chairpersons, but they have not received any payment since July 2021.
The hospital, located in Matany Town Council, Napak district was built 50 years ago at the request of the Comboni missionaries. It has since become the de facto regional referral facility for the population of Karamoja, an extremely remote region, with very poor health indicators. It also serves the neighbouring districts of Teso and West Kenya.
Ggoobi noted that it is unacceptable for NMS to continue delivering essential medicines and supplies to health centres, general, regional, and national referral hospitals without demanding accountability for previous deliveries.
