Alimah Aryemah, the chairperson of Muhokya IDP camp, says that the camp has about 183 school-going children many of whom are under the care of single mothers. She told URN that none of the 60 students in secondary school was able to report back on Monday.
The Kasese Resident District Commission Lt. Joe Walusimbi says the evaluation exercise also established that more than 100 people are unknown to the camp leadership.
Joseph Kabazungwire living in the camp says owing to the lack of safe water, people have resorted to drinking contaminated water whenever it rains. He adds that the lack of safe water and enough sanitation facilities like toilets puts those in camps especially children vulnerable to death from water-borne diseases such as diarrhoea.
