Betway sports betting company, which has operated in Uganda for the last seven years has been a major sponsor for different sports clubs including Uganda Premier League champions Express FC, Basketball Club Betway Powe, and Kobs Rugby Club. The same company sponsored Arua-based club Onduparaka back in 2016.
The League will return to action after almost five months. The last contest ended prematurely after the outbreak of the second wave of Covid-19 that forced the President to suspend all sporting activities.
Express FC, the reigning Champion of Uganda Premier league signed defender Deus Bukenya on a one-year deal as a free agent to help in the defence, while Kasozi joined on a season-long loan from Kyetume FC.
Express FC, also known as the Red Eagles, is in Pool-A alongside Tanzania’s Young Africans, Malawi’s Big Bullets and Atlabara from South Sudan whilst KCCA FC is in Pool A alongside Azam FC of Tanzania, Messager Ngozi FC of Burundi and KMKM SC from Zanzibar.
Express barely survived relegation in the 2017-18 season, securing their slot only after defeating bottom club Masavu 1-0 in the final game of the season. In that season, Express finished 13th with 31 points while UPDF that was relegated in the 14th position had 29 points.

Now, Wasswa Bbossa, head coach Express FC said his team is now switching focus to Uganda Premier league where they need to win all their games left in a bid to secure the 2021 silverware, after storming Stanbic Uganda Cup semi finals.
Express’s lead didn’t last long as it was cancelled by Vipers youngster, Karim Watambala just two minutes after with a long-range free-kick that gave little chance to Express custodian, Mathias Muwanga making it a one-all draw.
