Christopher Opiyo Ateker, the Gulu District Chairman told URN in an interview that the District Veterinary Officer –DVO has written to the MAAIF requesting it to lift the livestock quarantine since no case of the FMD has been reported in the district for the last one month.
Michael Oneka, a farmer under Tidi –ma-myero Farmers’ Group in Bungatira Sub –County in Gulu District, says 12 of his group members paid Shillings 148,500 each totalling to Shillings 1,782,000 to Simon Lamex Ocaka, a staff of United Bank of Africa.
Nairobi Onyuta, a farmer who lost all his pigs to the strange disease says that three more pigs belonging to his neighbours died over the weekend after contracting the disease whose cause is still a mystery to them.
Geoffrey Okot, a piggery farmer at Pagik Parish says that the disease was first detected in late February but has since escalated and killed over 30 pigs in his neighbourhood including his within four days.
