In a statement to staff issued at around 9pm, Deus Muhwezi Kamunyu, the MUASA Publicist, said they will hold an emergency general assembly on Thursday December 15th at Makerere University to deliberate on the agreed position by their executive.
Windscreens were crushed, fire lit in different corners of the university and property vandalized within and in the outskirts of Makerere. One Police Officer was also injured by a bottle thrown by students from Douglas Villa Hostel in Kikoni Makerere.
At least 150 Bank of Baroda Uganda (BOBU) employees on Monday morning went on a sit-down strike demanding a 20percent pay rise. The striking workers say they were promised a pay rise two years ago, but to-date it has not been delivered.
The university council chairperson confirmed that they had closed down the university to enable investigations into alleged mismanagement of funds and abuse of office by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Omolo Ndiege, commence. All students have been ordered to leave the university by 4pm this evening.
On Monday, the Kyambogo University Council chaired by Professor John Okiddi resolved to suspend Ndiege to pave way for investigations into his alleged mismanagement of the institution.
