Rev. Okunya was elected by the House of Bishops as the second bishop of Kumi Diocese in November 2019. However, his planned consecration and enthronement scheduled for December were cancelled on grounds that he had altered his year of birth from 1975 to 1970 to bring himself in the constitutional and canonical age bracket, which he had not attained by 2019 when he was nominated for the position.

The caterpillars were first sighted in Ngora district in a pest and disease surveillance report conducted by the Production and Marketing Department last month. The tunnels were discovered at the home of George Odeke who was digging a pit latrine, raising concern amongst residents of Kokong village and its neighbours that the tunnels could be exposing them to danger.
George Odeke, a resident of Kokong Village in Kapir Sub County discovered the tunnels while digging a pit latrine in his home about three weeks ago. The existence of the mysterious tunnels was exposed through social media on Sunday evening.
The Electoral Commission last week reversed results of the January 14, election, through which the incumbent MP David Abala had been declared the winner. Initial Results released by Peter Toddu, the Ngora District Returning Officer indicated that Abala won the seat with 8,317 votes, against Achayo' score of 7,828 votes.

The suspects were picked up for attacking Rev. Martin Ejiet, the Archdeacon of Ngora Archdeaconry, Rev. Sam Opolot and some Christians. The attackers, some of whom are said were armed with machetes invaded the church compound as early as 6:00 am and seized the vestry.
