‘’We lost people to hunger in big numbers. The report from Kotido District indicates that 1680 people died of hunger. During our pastoral work to the manyattas, we find children so malnourished, people very hungry, very thin and others dying in their houses and compounds,” Bishop Nasak said.
Micheal Longole, the Mt. Moroto regional police spokesperson has expressed gratitude for the project saying the police have for long been grappling with a shortage of accommodation for their personnel.
Akore explained that this would be the best time for Elders from different clusters within Karamoja to come together and explore possible solutions to some of the issues affecting the region but not to enjoy when their people are dying of starvation due to hunger.
Lobur Apaa Lochap, a pastoralist in Kotido district says sometimes raiders are forced to go for raids in an attempt to recover what is lost and through that the vice continues. He suggested that the security forces also give them time to track these animals since they understand the movement of their colleagues.

Thousands of people in Karamoja, one of Uganda’s poorest regions, are starving as a result of prolonged drought, the increase of insecurity and its associated protection risks, as well as large-scale structural and chronic vulnerabilities.
The cattle markets have been linked to the spate of raids as rustlers steal cows and immediately load them on trucks for transportation out of Karamoja, a trend which, according to Micheal Longole, the Mt Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson frustrates the recovery of stolen animals.
George Odongo, the Karamoja Regional Chairperson of Music, Dance, and Drama competition, says that although the schools managed to make it to the regional level, he is skeptical about their participation in the National competition due to inadequate funding.
Research shows that most of the households in the region have depleted their essential livelihood assets, including consuming seed stocks to cope with the situation partly brought about by the erratic effects of a changing climate. Children in the region are malnourished and many, on a daily basis are succumbing to starvation.
