Sserunkuma is one of the supporters of NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi who were arrested in Kalangala District in December. Although he was granted bail by the court, he was rearrested and paraded before the Military Court in Makindye, where he, and several others were charged with possession of military stores.
Bwanika, one of the Democratic Party strongmen who crossed to National Unity Platform-NUP last year won the race with 195,306 votes, defeating his main challenger, the National Resistance Movement – NRM candidate Moses Mayanja who had 52,808 votes.
Although, the remaining voting material was delivered as earlier as 6: 00 am at several polling stations within the district, by 8:00 am the affected polling stations had not received their materials as Electoral Commission officials were running up and down to sort the matter.
Most of the candidates had been given half or less of the total votes they had polled. The development caused unease at Wakiso district headquarters. However, Musinguzi accepted that there could have been some mistakes or system failures and agreed to recount the votes.
