The 1978 Uganda Cranes football team have been awarded the Golden Jubilee medals for their outstanding service to the country. The team, some of whose members are dead, took Uganda to the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations before losing 2-0 to hosts Ghana in the penultimate game of the tournament.

The Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Ramadhan Mubajje has suspended the district Khadi for Mbarara and two others over the sale of land belonging to the Muslim community.
