While tabling the Sugar Bill, 2016 at its first reading, Trade Minister Amelia Kyambadde said that the bill intends to introduce a harmonised and modern legal framework to enable the sugar industry develop in an orderly and competitive manner.

Parliaments rules, privileges and discipline committee has recommended to parliament to open up proceedings of the appointments committee to the public. The recommendation is carried in the committee report to parliament on the amendment of the Rules of Procedure of parliament. It is a legislative practice for each new parliament to make its own rules.
The Attorney General, William Byaruhanga informed parliament that government has given out similar rewards before citing Ugandans who excelled in different fields including but not limited to the thirty public officers who were part of the team that discovered oil in Uganda in 2006.
