Byabakama told journalists this evening at the nomination centre which has been set up in Kyambogo that the commission has received reports that several presidential aspirants have mobilized supporters to hold processions to accompany them for nomination.
The party has also defied a requirement for COVID-19 testing of all people intending to accompany the candidates to the nomination centre in Kyambogo. The Electoral Commission set a restriction of only ten members for each of the aspirants accessing the venue, and that each of them will be required to have a negative COVID-19 test result.
According to guidelines issued earlier by the Police, all Presidential aspirants and candidates will not be allowed to hold any processions along the road and will equally, have restricted access to the Central Business District, and all junctions that join the Kampala – Jinja Highway between Spear Motors and Kireka Trading Centre.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango defended the police after images started circulating on social media showing men dressed in a replica of the Police Uniform, defacing campaign posters along the Kampala-Entebbe Highway and within the Kampala Central Business District.
