Delivering his sermon to Christians at St. Paul Church of Uganda in Wii-gweng village, Bishop Ogwal said he felt hesitant to accept the change of plan. He disclosed to Christians that he felt that the prayers should have taken place at Namirembe Cathedral, the provincial cathedral of the Church of Uganda after being moved from the martyrs’ home village in Wii-gweng.
But Museveni criticized President Idi Amin for fearing criticism. This he said was an act of cowardice adding that there was no need for the former President to end the life of the Archbishop and the other senior members of government, over such issues.
The memorial prayer was organized by the local organizing committee in Kitgum District and was presided over by the former Northern Uganda Diocese Bishops, Rt. Rev Nelson Onono-onweng and Benoni Ogwal Abwang. It attracted young and old Christians from within and outside Kitgum district.
