In separate petitions that were later consolidated by the court, two petitioners, Patricia Magara and Alex Nathan Sserwanga challenged the victory of Hassan Kirumira of the National Unity Platform-NUP, citing election irregularities. They asked the court to cancel the election and order fresh ones. Kirumira won the race with 21,197 votes ahead of Magara who had 8,132 votes.
