Briefing journalists on Friday, Mayor Lurinda explained that the decision had been taken by the council following realization that the two distribution systems affected business performance in the main markets, which paid monthly dues to the municipal council.
A report by the district indicates that at least 26 percent of the disbursed funds have been diverted by the beneficiaries to procure woofers, a loudspeaker for playing music and mattresses. Others have reportedly used the funds to pay school fees for their children and relatives contrary to the selected enterprise.
