Dr Joseph Gyagenda, the Chairperson of the Foundation says that kidney diseases remain silently ignored by the government with only two dialysis centres, one in Kiruddu Hospital and the other in Mbarara Hospital.
The Chairman of Rotary Blood Bank Program Board Emmanuel Katongole says the blood bank is in dire need of specialized equipment to facilitate testing, processing, packaging and production of blood components like platelets, red blood cells and plasma. Part of the money is to purchase a fully equipped Mobile Blood Bank.
On Wednesday May 23, Bubulo West Member of Parliament Rose Mutonyi, told parliament that cases of the strange disease causing children to urinate blood and later on die had been reported in Bukusu, Nabutoola and Bugobero Sub counties.
The National Drug Authority-NDA has closed more fourteen pharmacies across the Country for operating without valid licenses. The closed pharmacies are in Mbale, Kirombe, Kitontale, Mubende, Nalukolongo, Kiryadongo and others areas.
Buganda Kingdom is planning to build a women and childrens hospital in the coming five years. The Kingdom also looks at establishing a Primary Teacher Training College. This is according to the Kingdoms new five-year strategic plan approved by the Buganda Lukiiko sitting on Monday at Bulange-Mengo.

Parliaments health committee has warned of increased maternal mortality if government does not provide an additional 5.4 billion Shillings required to increase blood collections across the country. The committee chairperson, Dr. Michael Bukenya, says that government has provided only 9.6 billion of the required 15.1 billion shillings for Uganda Blood Transfusion Services UBTS to collect 240,000 units of blood annually. This translates into a shortage of 90,537 units of blood.
The annual cancer run organized by Rotary International is this year aimed at raising 4 million US Dollars to equip the Nsambya Hospital Cancer Ward with a cancer treatment machine. The machine is said to help in treating cancer by destroying the cancerous cells without affecting the surrounding issue.
The Hospital management led by the Acting Director Dr. Edward Nkurunziza, former Director Dr. Edward Naddumba and Principal Administrator Winnie Sserwanja had appeared before the committee to explain queries raised in the 2015 Auditor Generals report.
