According to the structural plan, the abattoir will comprise of storage facilities to avoid contamination and a collection center for waste products. About 80 pigs will be slaughtered at the facility each day once completed.
Mugume says that the construction of the factory has increased the price of Pineapples from 1,000 shillings to between 1,500 and 2,000 shillings. He also says that the number of Pineapple farmers has increased from 156 to 32,202 farmers.
Patrick Waiswa, the LC 1 chairperson Nakasedere village says the area is surrounded by sugarcane plantations but the few farmers involved in food crop growing are counting losses due to the wilt infestation.
Dr. Emmanuel Kalungi Kawooya, the Sembabule District Production Officer as well as the Marketing Coordinator, says studies found that several water sources in the area contained toxic residual elements from agrochemicals varying between 40 to 50 percent.
