By the time of its establishment in 2019, statistics suggested that Teso sub-region had more than eight million fruit trees to support the production of juice. But when the factory started production, less than half of the farmers in Teso were able to supply fruits to the factory.

Moses Eladu, a farmer from Obaki Village in Kamuda sub county in Soroti district says that whereas Migera has sustained his family for long, its productivity has deteriorated. He explains that the old cassava variety is now infested with white flies, rots in the garden, something he notes was exposing his household to the risk of starvation.
Pela commodities has already started laying its machinery in the area near Soroti Fruit Factory. Desert locusts that invaded Uganda over two weeks ago through Karamoja have been seen mostly in rural areas. But this morning, the insects invaded Soroti, the biggest town in Teso, sending many residents in disarray.
In sub-counties of Gweri, Kamuda and Soroti, a number of residents are seen screaming, drumming, blowing whistles, sounding pans and throwing stones to chase away the migratory pests which invaded the area more than a week ago.
