The nurses are attending the nationwide training ahead of the age-wide national Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign which is due to run from the October 16-20 targeting children older than 9 months to under 15 years of age. At the same time, a booster dose of oral polio vaccine will be given to all children younger than five years of age.
For one to have comprehensive knowledge about HIV, they should be able to identify that using condoms consistently and limiting sex to one uninfected partner are two ways of preventing transition. They should also be able to reject common misconceptions that mosquitoes transmit HIV, that sharing food with an infected person transmits infection and knowing that a healthy-looking person can transmit the virus.
The district secretary for health and education Walter Oyoo Komakech says the test and treat candidates for malaria campaign is meant to ensure learners in the candidate classes approach the forth coming Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) while they are healthy.
