The abattoir, sitting on 40 acres of land at Kyetume trading centre near the Uganda Railway Corporation inland container depot in Mukono, was set up in the 1960s. At the time, it housed the biggest slaughterhouse and a cattle market in the Central region.
The days have been reduced from 18 to 12 according to the health ministry. When patients test negative for the disease after 10 days, they will be discharged.
The in-charge St. Joseph’s Hospital Dr Julius Mugagga says that the free cleft lip and palate camp at the facility started in June with 22 people getting surgeries and 32 people being operated on last month.
The health workers from different health centers note that there is limited access to supplies such as gloves, medical masks, goggles, face shields, gowns, and aprons.
