President Museveni Museveni early this month announced a ban on inter-district travel to prevent a further spread of COVID-19 as Uganda battles a more deadly wave of the pandemic. The president subsequently banned public transport implying that even essential workers who did not have their own means of transport would be unable to move.
The directive was issued at the pronouncement of a 42-day lockdown in which movement is restricted within districts, and curfew hours adjusted to 7 p.m. According to President Yoweri Museveni, staying in Markets will help traders keep coronavirus at bay since they will be stationed in one place, while equally protecting the rest of the family members.
That’s among the key findings of the latest annual report released on Thursday by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), which also provides an overview of global drug markets, as well as their impact on people’s health and livelihoods.
