Unlike other countries, South Sudan took early measures eve before registering the first case. the government declared a curfew from 8:00 p.m. to 06:00 am ad also ordered the closure of all bars, night clubs, and shops, other than those selling food, in addition to encouraging people to observe social distancing rules.
“Due to the increasing threat of the CORONA virus in Uganda, effective Wednesday March 25th 2020 to April 9th 2020, the Economic Policy Research Centre Staff members will continue working online from their homes,” said EPRC management.
The proposed staff recruitment comes a few hours after Health Minister; Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng confirmed eight new Coronavirus cases sending panic among the population. According to Dr. Aceng, all the eight cases are Ugandan nationals who travelled back from Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In a statement issued this morning, the Senior Health Ministry Publicist, Emmanuel Ainebyoona, says no single COVID-19 case has been registered in the country. He also clarifies that the Health Ministry surveillance teams received an alert from Royal Complex on Friday of a lady suspected to have COVID-19 infection.
Arnold Waiswa Ayazika, the NEMA director, Environmental Monitoring and Compliance says beyond the suppressing of the locusts, NEMA is interested in monitoring the potential impact of chemicals on water sources, food crops and or any other non-target organisms.
Although, Aceng doesn’t mention when the drugs will be delivered, she says the country remains at risk of infection even as there are no active cases, adding that this is the reason they are considering all interventions including treatment, vaccination and screening at the various border points.
Dr. Katumba Ssentongo, the Registrar Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council, says there is need for the Health and Education Ministries to prioritize the training of dentistry at both the under graduate and post graduate levels in order to provide quality dental services in the country
