Agnes Kabahiire, the Assistant District Health Officer in charge of Family Planning and Maternal Health, indicates that despite the availability of free screening and vaccination services at the different health facilities, the demand for the services remains law as per the preferred target.
Swaibu Makumbi, the chairperson of the Southern Region Social Rights Association alleges that despite charging patients, the private wing competes for medical equipment with the general wards and priority is often given to paying patients and oftentimes, the underprivileged are sidelined.
Dr. Nathan Onyachi, the Medical Director of Masaka Regional Referral Hospital and coordinator of health services under the Greater Masaka Regional Covid-19 task force, says that they have agreed to proactively engage village health teams to reinforce the limited number of health workers in providing the much-needed response and case-management services in the area.
Tony Kujawa, the Kampala US Embassy Spokesperson, says the program will support Uganda’s health sector at the national, regional, district and facility levels to combat the HIV pandemic. Kujawa says the facilities were identified for their capability in promoting access to quality health care services across the country.
