According to WHO, the COVAX Facility has slashed planned COVID-19 vaccine deliveries to Africa by around 150 million this year which means the continent faces almost 500 million doses short of the global year-end target of fully vaccinating 40% of its population.
Dr Dinah Amongin, the lead investigator said that while the government has managed to reduce teenage pregnancy rates from 40% in the last 15 years to 24% now, repeat adolescent births remain very high, a pointer that shows teenagers haven’t been guided on protection against another unwanted pregnancy.
Dr Eugene Ruzagira, a member of the team of researchers told a news conference organized by the Health Journalists Network that they are giving all the participants in their PrEPVACC trial a daily Descovy tablet to assess whether it’s effective in preventing participants from getting infected.
Mulago Hospital Excecutive Director Dr Byarugaba Baterana told the recently inaugurated board that one major challenge the government facility was experiencing is moon lighting of doctors. He noted that there is need for policy makers to end this with new regulations that prohibit duo loyalty of doctors in government facilities across the country.
