The fire was according to the school administration lit by rowdy students who went on rampage on Monday when they organized a strike with intention of destroying properties.
In Mpigi Town council, Mpigi UMEA Primary School, St. Kizito Primary, St. Michael, Bume, St. Bruno PRImary, Besaniya Primary, Kibuuka Memorial Primary and Bugayi Foundation School among others remained closed.

George Rwabongoya, the head teacher told URN that only a section of science teachers were on duty whereas arts classes were empty as the majority of the staff members stayed away from classes. Some of the boarding schools in the district like Nyakasura School are urging students to engage in self-study since they cannot send the learners back home.
Odyesseus Awany, a retired primary school head teacher believes that performance has dropped especially in government schools because teachers are occupying learners instead of teaching.
Kitulha Meress, one of the female students at the institute, says that she recieved several discouraging messages from the public during her first semester, arguing that such sentiments have dispirited many of her peers from joining vocational institutions.
According to Mugura, they suspended the students after receiving a tip that they were inciting their colleagues to strike. He revealed that the administration requested additional security personnel from the police, who spent a week at school until last night when they left.
