A week ago, reports emerged that a section of MPs was furious about the deductions. Initial reports quoted Bugabula South MP Maurice Kibalya and Nakawa East MP Ronald Balimwezo and Aruu saying that there should not be collective responsibility in contributing to the fund because a number of them did not consent to the resolution.
Dollo then said that the education of Oulanyah’s children would be possible, if the love shown by the grief of Ugandans is converted into financial contribution to the Education Trust Fund. He pledged to account for all the finances raised for the cause.
Sulaiman Ssemwogerere, the Coordinator for Uganda Professional Science Teachers Union in Luwero district, says that some headteachers have been threatening to write to Chief Administrative Officers to delete the names of the striking teachers from the payroll. According to Ssemwogerere, the headteachers claim that the science teachers’ strike is illegal and those who participate in it are considered to have absconded from duty.
