The worst-hit areas are the six villages of Kobatum, Oburiateng, Ajeesai, Acanga, Amero and Oitu- all in Acowa Sub County, which were submerged after a heavy downpour that hit the area last week.
The pilot project has seen 25 villages, eight trading centres and selected public institutions that have not been not part of the national electricity grid in Lamwo district with more expected to be connected to the power grid.
Mackline Namiyingo, the Kakumiro District Environment Officer-DEO, says that the lockdown equally affected the supervision of wetlands, swamps and forest reserves, which saw hundreds of people invading the protected areas.
Lucy Akech, the LC I of Ogony Cell in Kweyo Ward, says that the waste from the abattoir flows straight to Ogony stream where residents fetch water for domestic use since there is no borehole or piped water in the area.
