The team leader Dr Peter Muwereza says that the team will sensitise residents on the disease in addition to compiling an on-site report about the yellow fever threat in the district. He added that the Ministry is also mobilizing resources to carry out mass vaccination against yellow fever in the district.
Aceng noted that she isn’t aware of any budget cuts since they have just received the first budget call circular from government, which isn’t conclusive because it doesn’t contain external funding and other sources like loans.
Dr. Gilbert Baayenda, the Programs Officer for Trachoma Control/ Elimination Program in the Health Ministry told URN on Tuesday that they are making final touches to eradicate trachoma from Uganda. He says that only three out of the initial 50 districts still have the prevalence of five percent of the entire population suffering from the disease.
Samuel Kigula, the President of the Intern Doctors, says that since interns do a lot of work in health facilities due to shortage of health workers, the move exposes patients to risk of being treated by individuals who don’t have necessary skills since students will not get sufficient exposure to different cases at health facilities.
Dr. Nicholas Kwikiriza, the Acting Kikuube District Health Officer, says the samples taken from the deceased have tested negative for Ebola and other hemorrhagic fevers.
