So far, six out of nine districts making up the Karamoja sub region have had locusts. Throughout the day on Tuesday, the locusts were only seen in Kobebe Dam, Lotisan Sub County. The Kobebe swarm is said to have moved from Nakabaat, where the locusts first invaded on Sunday.
On the same evening, Hilary Lopeyok, the assistant inspector of schools in Kaabong district survived narrowly, when the speeding Longiro river almost overpowered his car. Lopeyok, who was travelling to Kotido for an official duty with four others struggled for more than one hour before the rescue team helped them out. The river has cut off the road to Kaabong from Kotido for close to a month.
All the eight districts of Karamoja have boundary conflicts. Kotido and Abim have locked horns over Lokililing and Moru-Alokwangat Parishes while Kotido and Kaabong also have a disputed boundary at Lolelia in Kacheri Sub County. Napak district is at loggerheads with Katakwi, Abim and Moroto, some of which have culminated into violence.
Margaret Okuda, the district sports officer for Kotido says that since UN Agency for Children, UNICEF stopped funding sports activities seven years ago, the district has never participated in any national sports events.
Gloria Napeyok who is also a gospel singer was convicted by Grade II Magistrate, Paul Abunyala on Tuesday after she pleaded guilty to theft. She was jointly convicted with her boyfriend Hamis Lopeyok over the same offence.
