East African Court Hears Application against Burundi Press Law press freedom 1

The law forbids reporting on matters which could undermine national security, public order or the economy. Proponents of the law argue that it will professionalize the media in Burundi and ensure that journalists do not incite hatred in the country previously characterized by conflict. But the Journalists\' Association alleges that the adoption of the Press Law violates the fundamental and operational principles of the EAC.

EA Court Upholds Zziwa's Suspension

Today's ruling implies that the assembly will proceed with a one-day sitting in its Chambers in Arusha tomorrow, Wednesday to adopt a report on the findings into complaints leveled against Zziwa, grounds of which she was suspended.
