The team of nine people including three boxers, one weight lifter and one swimmer plus coaches and officials was flagged off on Thursday by Sports Minister Hamson Obua to go for their one-month spell in Japan before the final games in July.
However, amidst the concerns, the IOC says it "remains fully committed to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 and with more than four months to go before the games there is no need for any drastic decisions at this stage; any speculation at this moment would be counter-productive."
Therefore, all athletes should continue preparing for the games as best as they can.
The Head of Mission and Committee Member, Beatrice Ayikoru, told Uganda Radio Network-URN that since 2018, the committee has been involved in several activities, which include identifying federations that are most likely to deliver athletes who will qualify for the Olympics games.
