Paul Kangave the Greater Masaka Regional Police spokesperson says that majority of the lower local leaders in the area are failing to execute their mandates of managing simple conflicts through their local council courts.
“No cause for alarm, UNRA is for government and the market to be constructed is for government. When did that letter come? I know destructors are celebrating but they will end up reading the letter get excited and the rest is history. Government is so huge and proud not to embarrass its self”, said Byamugisha.
Anesteri Bahemuka, one of the miners says that they have been mining sand for over 10 years but were shocked last week when Biryabarema deployed police to evict them and impound any trucks carrying sand. According to Bahemuka, the ban on sand mining is affecting their survival, since it is the only source of their livelihood.
