The funds were to be used to develop infrastructure especially roads and streets within the central business area of the town including Rwenzori Road, Margherita, Stanley, Alexander and Mukirania streets.
The Taskforce reached the decision after Mukono District Health Officer-DHO Steven Mulindwa informed the members that the District Woman Member of Parliament, Hanifah Nabukeera had donated an ambulance to ease emergence responses and referral of COVID-19 patients. He asked the task force to operationalize the ambulance to play its role.
Geoffrey Feta, the Ayivu East Member of Parliament, says the one of the key roads in his constituency and water points have depreciated greatly because of the pressure on the resources. He says that they are in talks with the responsible government agencies to address the challenges.
Richard Kamara Okumu, the Pabbo Town Council Chairperson says they have failed to start implementation of their activities that they promised their constituents like opening of more access roads because of lack of funds.
Asporo Taremwa, the Deputy RDC Masaka, says that the donation comes at a time when some health workers are battling the deadly disease. He says that the front liners are excessively exposed to COVID-19 infection without enough PPEs.
According to the residents, UWA had previously conducted surveys on the disputed land but they were surprised when the ministry surveyors went the disputed UWA demarcations and encroached on their private land. They accused the land officials of being compromised by UWA and police.
