Three of the dead are Hebert Byamukama, a resident of Kyaduri Kyenjojo District, Consolata Katusabe from the same address, and another only identified as Agondeze. Police are yet to establish the identities of other male victims.
The district officials are accused of failing to deduct more than five million shillings of Pay As You Earn from public servants and political leaders. The irregularity was captured in the Auditor General’s report for the financial year 2020/2021.
Solomon Anguzu, the Secretary of Finance, and Administration attributed the reduction to the negative attitude of taxpayers and poor remittance by the lower local government units.
The markets to be constructed are Matangacia market in Kololo village, Rigbo sub-county, and Ayavu market in Inde town council at 1.76 billion and 1.4 billion shillings respectively.
