Fungaroo Kaps Hassan, the Obongi MP who led residents from his constituency to the proposed bridge site on Thursday said they decided to mobilise themselves to clear the bridge site after waiting for government response in vain.
Vincent Alpha Opio, the Kabwoya Sub county LC 5 councilor, says the collapse of the bridge affected hundreds of pupils from Ndongo, Kaseeta, Ngemwa and Lyatal villages who were using it to cross to Kaseeta primary school.
According to Byagagaire, they followed up the matter and were told that the materials on site had already cost Shillings 40 million, an amount he disputes. Byagagaire says their calculation shows that the material cost not more than Shillings 10 million.
John Bosco Ocan, the Amuru District LC Vice Chairperson, says the state of the bridge worsened under heavy rains and traffic after big Lorries started plying it in search for tree logs and other agro produce.
Julius Birungi, the LC I Chairperson of Butulya village, says when the situation worsened prompting pupils to stop going to school, he used his personal money to buy logs that were used to construct a temporary bridge.
The money in question was allocated during the 2016/2017 financial year for the temporary renovation of Kashasha Bridge in Bufundi Sub County. The bridge connects Kinyarushengye cell to Kashasha Catholic Church, Kaato Technical Institute and Kaato Primary School.
