Speaking at Bududa district headquarters after a three-day launching exercise, which ended on Monday morning, the Chief Administrative Officer, Joshua Mabiya, asked the contractors to stick to standard work and ensure value for money.
Bududa LC V Chairperson, Milton Kamoti Wasunguyi, says this prompted them to seek an explanation from the Works Ministry as to why the contractor abandoned the road sites.
Tappy Namulondo the Bududa Chief Administrative Officer district, they have requested the victims to vacate, but they have refused until they are relocated or compensated. According to Namulondo, the toilets are filled up and need to be emptied and classrooms renovated.
Tom Shibale, the Engineer Nangako Town Council, says that they expect to complete the project within two years. He says that they have received half of the amount expected to complete the work and expect to deliver the first phase of the project this month.
Bududa District Assistant Chief Administrative Officer Samson Natsambwa says that the exercise was halted after the term of office of some members on the DSC expired before advertising for the various positions including administrative and health.
This is because since the introduction of five town councils of Bududa, Bushigayi Nangako, Kikholo, and Kuushu which are semi-autonomous, revenue from their markets is now retained to run their town activities.
The six stamps are from Nabungara ward which comprises cells of Nabafu, Nabungara, Shiluku South, Shiluku Central, Shiluku Main and Nabungara ward itself.
Barnard Wataka, the Managing Director Bam Construction and Surveyors Ltd, says that they are committed to complete the work within the allocated time frame.
In March 2019, Ministry of Health contracted Geomax Engineering Company to build a maternity ward, three stance pit latrine and placenta pit at the facility. The company was also expected to renovate the Outpatient Department-OPD.
The construction works which started in July last year are estimated to cost 4billion shillings up to completion but had since stalled following lack of funds.
Stephen Wambewo, a farmer from Nabweya told Uganda Radio Network that he has always wanted to acquire good breeds of animals but he had failed because authorities ask him for money yet he thought it was free.
According to Bululu, the proposed Namasho district will comprise Bulucheke, Bumayoka, Bubiita, Bushiyi, Bumwalukani, Busiriwa, Bundesi, Bukalasi, Mabono, Bufuma Nalwanza, Buwali sub-counties and Kuushu Town Council.
More than 120 victims have now established a camp in a piece of land which was donated by one of the residents in Luwambi cell, in Nangako Town Council after going through the same ordeal. They have built temporal shelters made of tarpaulins, with each small shelter accommodating between seven and 14 people sleeping on banana fibres and leaves as beddings.
Nambeshe however, says the Office of the Prime Minister abandoned the plan and procured land in Bunambutye Sub County in Bulambuli district to construct houses for the resettlement of the landslide victims.
