Unidentified gunmen opened fire at Katumba’s vehicle registration number H4DF 2138 along Kisaasi-Kisota road killing his daughter, Brenda Nantongo Wamala and driver, Haruna Kayondo.
Gen. Katumba who was at the time headed for his mother in law’s vigil at Najjanankumbi, escaped with gunshot wounds in the shoulders and is currently admitted at Madipal International Hospital.
Gen Lokech in a statement issued said the assailants trailed Gen Katumba’s vehicle as soon as it left the home at Bulabira –Najeera until when they reached a remote location about 4 kilometres along the Kisota-Kulambiro road.
Aaron Akol aged 17 years, a student of St Michael Kampala and a resident of Campswahili chin, South division in Moroto Municipality was shot dead on Monday night.
The 9am volley of ammunitions left his daughter, Brenda Nantongo and driver, Haruna Kayondo, killed on the spot while the four-star General survived with bullets wounds on the shoulders.
In a video message recorded on from his sickbed at Medipal International hospital where he is being treated for gunshot wounds on his shoulders, Gen. Katumba assures his children that he will be fine.
Addressing journalists at his residence in Namirembe, hours after the incident, Kazimba said that they are saddened with the news of the attempted assassination of Wamala and the killing of his daughter and driver.
Oulanyah, who visited Katumba together with his Deputy Anita Among, says that the attackers approached the General’s vehicle from the back and front and were determined to eliminate him.
