The fire broke out at the collapsed Kiteezi landfill around 9:00 am sparking widespread fear among nearby residents.
Residents are expressing deep frustration and disappointment over the government's unfulfilled promises, leaving them to live in constant fear for their lives. Many are adamant that they will not vacate the area until they receive compensation, stating that they have nowhere else to go.
However, Ochola’s optimism was hampered by the immediate ‘cutting’ down of police budget year in year out. In his first year, police budget of 2018/2019 was slashed by more than 200 billion shillings. In that year, police had presented a budget framework which was more than a trillion shillings but they were allocated only 540 billion shillings which was 200 billion less to the force’s funding of the 2017/2018 financial year.
A truck carrying bodies and accompanied by United Nations vehicles crossed the border of Goma to the Rwanda side of Rubavu. After about an hour the convoy of UN vehicles under the escort of Rwanda Defense Forces (RDF) soldiers crossed through the Rwandan border of Chanika in Burera district to the Uganda border of Chanika in Kisoro district and RDF officials handed over the convoy to Ugandan security authorities.
