State Minister for Fisheries Hellen Adoa who commissioned the ongoing works tasked encroachers to keep off the shoreline as their illegal farmlands continue to weaken the water banks, forcing them to float along Lake Victoria.
State Minister for Fisheries Hellen Adoa Says that many of the encroachers have failed to heed to calls to vacate the shoreline, threatening the natural resources and their habitats. According to Adoa, all the lakes are now covered with floating islands that descended from the weakening shorelines as a result of human activity.
Fred Enanga, the spokesperson of the Uganda Police Force said that many of the drivers had not registered with the city authorities, before returning to the road. Others were abusing the route charts released by Kampala Capital City Authority and loaded more than the authorised number of passengers.
They have created more space to enable social distancing, installing automated document readers to eliminate excessive scanning passport pages and e- boarding pass readers and other glass shields at the baggage check-in points to reduce contact between passengers and immigration, customs and health officers.
Departing passengers will now be expected to arrive at the airport at least four hours before boarding to go through the Health Port screening procedures. They will also be required to present a valid health certificate from the Ministry of Health or undergo a rapid test at the airport before departure.
In a letter to the chief executives of commercial banks, credit institutions, and microfinance deposit-taking institutions, BOU said “Current projection and market intelligence indicates that Covid-19 pandemic might in the near term potentially lead to a double-digit decline in real estate valuations.”
