The Association decided to offer the free medical procedure to ailing but vulnerable children as the Indian Community in the country marks 100 years of existence in Uganda. This year also marks 50 years of the expulsion of Indians from Uganda in August 1972 when President Idi Amin accused them of "milking the country" through capital flight and exporting profits and revenue from their operations in the country.

Lugazi municipality has 19 town agents collecting revenue from the three divisions of Najjembe, Kawolo and Lugazi Central. Cyprian Byansi, the Municipal Secretary for Finance who also headed the probe committee says none of the town agents remits the council revenue from the trading licenses as it is collected.

It is said that about 532 million tonnes of rare earth elements have been identified in an area stretching a distance of 40-kilometres from the Igombe and Makuutu in Bugweri, Nakigo and Bulamagi in Iganga district and Imanyiro and Buwaaya sub-counties in Mayuge district. This area has almost 5000 households.
