Emmanuel Wakibi, the district councilor representing Bushiribo Sub County, said the purpose of the project was to serve people uphill of Nabweya who did not have access to water. “The people uphill are still suffering but am surprised that pipes are only in the lower area leaving the people who were supposed to be the main beneficiaries of the project,” he said.
Mark Ssengondo and another domestic worker who spoke on condition of anonymity were among the deportees. They however told our reporter at the time that they were still in shock and needed time to recover before they could explain why they were deported.
The deportee, aged 24 years, says she was only rescued by neighbors who heard her screaming in pain one afternoon.
