Geoffrey Matovu, the IGG Gulu Regional Inspectorate Officer says currently, they have over 300 case files of corruption at the office but only have five investigators attached to the sub-region.
According to statistics obtained from police in Aswa River Region, a total of 366 homicide cases were registered in Acholi Sub –Region in a period of 15 months. Out those cases, 301 were from January to December 2020 while 65 were from January to March this year.
A recent murder case was reported to police on Sunday in Agago where an eighteen-year-old girl identified as Collins Acayo, a Senior two student of Adilang Secondary School in Agago, was discovered dead in the bush with a slit throat. Police report indicates that the deceased was allegedly murdered during a revenge attack in an interfamily feud.
These cases within only eight months surpass the cases of domestic violence recorded in the region in 2019 according to the Police Annual Crime Reports of 2019. According to the annual crime report, Acholi Sub –Region recorded 1,131 cases of domestic violence.
