Led by Sandra Nalwanga, the area Woman Councilor representing Butologo and Kiruuma Sub Counties, the residents say that the gold miners forcefully stopped them from cultivating on their respective areas and later on started digging pits. They fear that instead of digging the ground for crops, their land has been surrendered for gold-mining activities, to which they are not even beneficiaries.
Juliet Ninsiima, a kibanja holder, says that she was in her garden when some employees of the Chinese firm armed with machetes threatened to hack her unless she vacates the land.
Speaking in a meeting chaired by Mubende district LC V Chairperson, Michael Ntambi and Buwekula Member of Parliament, Museveni Ndooli at Kiteredde village on Wednesday, residents accused Dr. Rwacumika of conniving with the police to force them to sell their land with threats of evicting those who refuse to comply.
According to the Mubende district community development officer Maria Ndagire, they are facing a challenge of a place where they can detain the children below the age of 18 years and most of the time, they are put in custody with the old inmates which she says is not good.
Jane Francis Nassanga, one of the residents says that attempts to evict them from the village would cause tension because the majority of them do not have anywhere to go.
Kawala says the deceased were children of Muhammad Kaliisa, a resident of Kisenyi village in Kitenga sub-county. The children are said to have suffocated to death on Monday evening.
Their mother Nakato Prossy is attributing the disappearance of the trio to prolonged closure of schools which relatively grown-up girl children have lost hope of ending soon.
The suspects include identified Charles Nyanzi who allegedly sacrificed his ten-year-old daughter Sharon Nantume in the pursuit for riches. Nyanzi was arrested alongside his fiancee Diana Tugabiirwe, a traditional herbalist Sserukeera Deo, and his wife Nabukeera Margaret.
