Sam Serunjongi, who is eying the Wobulenzi town council LC III chairperson’s seat, says the District NUP Vetting Committee was also biased against certain aspirants and approved candidates based on friendship other than their contribution to the party.
Nansana Municipality and Busiro East constituencies have the biggest number of aspirants each with 15 people who picked nomination forms, followed by Kyaddondo East and Makindye Sabagabo Municipality where each has nine aspirants. Kira municipality comes next with seven people wishing to oust sitting MP Ibrahim Ssemuju Nganda.
Jinja has in the past 30 years missed out on having a government university at now Jinja Senior secondary school, the Coca cola plant which was transferred to Namanve and the Chinese hospital was also relocated to Naguru in Kampala. The residents blame such missed opportunities to weak leadership.
Allan Biira, one of the disgruntled NUP members, said Baluku has been resilient, enduring and suffered various arrests for promoting the party in the district. He wants all party members to participate in the selection of flag bearers just like the case was with NRM.
