According to the Sauti ZaWanainchi survey conducted between July and August 2020, flush toilets are used by just 1 per cent of the country’s population. It showed that even in urban areas, only 3 per cent of the population had access to flush toilets.
Those whose nomination was cancelled include Sophie Malinga, Dinah Eveline Akongot, Jessica Asio, Naume Ekwenare, Ketty Akello, and Mary Goretti Kitaka. According to the Electoral Commission, all the six had discrepancies in their paperwork, which upon scrutiny led to a conclusion that they were erroneously nominated.
The mission led by former Burundi President, Sylvester Ntibantunganya says all political parties and candidates were able to conduct their campaigns across the country freely, while the opening of polling stations followed existing laws and procedures.
