Some of those sworn in are Vice President Maj. Rtd Jessica Alupo, Prime Minister and Leader of Government Business Robinah Nabbanja, Second Deputy Prime Minister Moses Ali, Third Deputy Prime Minister Lukia Nakadama, Minister of Education and Sports Janet Kataha Museveni, Maj. Gen. Rtd Jim Muhwezi the Minister of Security, Hajati Misa Kabanda, the Minister for Kampala Capital and Metropolitan Affairs, Justine Kasule Lumumba, the Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister in charge of General Duties, Thomas Tayebwa the Government Chief Whip, Frank Tumwebaze the Minister of Agriculture, Animal and Fisheries and others.
Some of those who failed to show up are the Minister for Presidency, Babirye Milly Babalanda and Attorney-General, Kiryowa Kiwanuka because of their recent contact with COVID-19 victims. The Minister of Public Service, Muruli Mukasa and Foreign Affairs State Minister in Charge of Regional Affairs, John Mulimba also did not swear in because even during the vetting by Parliament they were indisposed.
Lukwago initially said that they had three ambulances that couldn't serve the large population under KCCA jurisdiction. But KCCA Spokesperson Daniel NuweAbine says the extra ambulances were mobilized by the Ministry of Health from the districts of Mukono and Wakiso which make up the metropolitan.
This follows reports that the daily rate for patients that are critically ill and require admission into the intensive care unit ranges between two and five million Shillings which is unaffordable to most Ugandans on a daily basis. Reports also indicate that Ugandans are spending as much as 100 million Shillings to treat COVID-19 from private health facilities,
“This is to inform the General Public that the Minister-in-charge of the Presidency; Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda is under quarantine having been in contact with a COVID-19 Patient. Accordingly, she will be in isolation for some period as advised by the doctors,” reads a statement by Faruk Kirunda, the Deputy Press Secretary in the Office of the President.
