Police have identified the deceased as Polycarp Lokeris and Lotyang John Bosco Lokurukan, both residents of Komuria in Kaabong district. Polycarp Lokeris was a graduate of engineering from Kyambogo university having completed his bachelor's course from in 2019.
According to the District Education Officer, Santina Sangar, there was only one graduate among Ik by 2016. The graduate Hillary Lokwang was the first member of the Ik community to join Parliament in the History of Uganda, after the creation of a new constituency in the area, in which he emerged unopposed, with no one to match his level of education; a Bachelors Degree in Public Administration from St. Lawrence University, Kampala.
The four mobilizers had travelled to Kaabong in a salon car full of Red Berets; the People Power trademark hats, to drum up support for Judith Adyaka Nalibe, the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party candidate in the ongoing parliamentary campaigns.
The Kaabong Woman MP seat fell vacant after Rose Lilly Akello opted for the new Karenga district that became operational on July 1. Three people have so far expressed interest in the seat. They are Christine Tubo Nakwang, Agnes Napiyo and Ahmad Fardoza.
Dr. Odoi urged the candidates to exercise discipline by following the laws and regulations of the campaigns under the NRM party. He said that candidates will hold joint campaigns from August 17th- 24th, 2019 before the elections slated for August 26th.
The MPs note that the ministrys budget has reduced from 13 billion Shillings to 300 million Shillings, a change that came after a cabinet reshuffle which saw First Lady, Janet Museveni out of the ministry.
Rose Lilly Akello has bounced back to Parliament as Kaabong Woman MP after beating Christine Tubo Nakwang in the by-election held on Monday. Akello, who is on the ruling NRM party ticket, polled a total of 21,814 votes against Tubos 21,558 votes. Judith Adiaka Nalibe of the opposition FDC party trailed with 593 votes.
They include Tubo Nakwang Christine- who is contesting as an independent candidate, Rose Lilly Akello- a member of the ruling National Resistance Movement- NRM party and Judith Adiaka Nalibe- from the opposition Forum for Democratic Change FDC party.
