President Museveni promised in 2017, to construct the Institute in memory of the late John Muhima Kalekezi, the father of the former Inspector-General of Police Edward Kale Kahiyura for his role in instilling the spirit of Pan-Africanism amongst Ugandans. In the same year, the President laid a foundation stone for the construction of the institute on 168-acres’ of land at Rwivovo village in Nyakabande sub-county.
According to Owebeyi, although the candidates’ photos and party symbols that appeared on ballot papers were genuine, the names were not those of the candidates. He adds that the ballots displayed the names of Arthur Kazoora Atuzarirwe as the NRM flag bearer, Didas Byaruhanga Kagyinda as FDC flag bearer, Victor Atwiine and Donzio Kahonda Mugabe as independent candidates.
According to Vicent Mushakamba, Kisoro district FDC Chairman, Semahore was arrested on Monday at around 11:00 AM from Kisoro town while trying to stop security personnel that included police and Uganda Peoples Defense Forces -UPDF soldiers from removing and defacing all opposition campaign posters from Kisoro town.
Mateke, who is also, the State Minister for Regional Affairs accuses Mugisha of using foul language and creating animosity among residents, costing the party the enormous support it previously enjoyed in the border district.
On Friday while campaigning for National Resistance Movement (NRM) party presidential flag bearer, Yoweri Museveni at Nyakinama sub-county headquarters, Mugisha threatened to shoot supporters of NUP Presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi should they show up on his campaign rally in Kisoro next month. Mugisha repeated the same threats on Saturday in Murora sub-county. Mugisha says that security operatives will shoot and kill NUP supporters especially when they attempt to lit fire along the roads while welcoming Kyagulanyi.
Leaders in her home district Kisoro say that the death of the soft spoken activist, counselor and grassroots mobilizer is a great loss to the region. Kisoro District Chairperson Abel Bizimana says that Kwizera had a heart for the needy.
Area residents say that President Yoweri Museveni pledged to facilitate the process to create Bukimbiri Constituency, as a new electoral area curved out of present day Bufumbira North. The presidents pledge was made during a public rally at Rubuguri Playground on December 30, 2015.
Abel Bizimana, the Kisoro District Chairperson, says although Museveni garnered overwhelming support in the district during the just concluded polls, voters have started losing trust in him due to unfulfilled pledges.
