Aponye lost his life in a road crash in Itojo town council, Ntungamo district, along the Mbarara-Kabale highway on Thursday night at approximately 9:00 PM. The collision involved a V8 Toyota Land Cruiser registration number UBF 300Z and a stationery Fuso truck loaded with Irish potatoes, registration number UAZ 767D.
Benson Twesiime, the Itojo Hospital Medical Officer said that Nyegamehe died on spot, while two other occupants in the vehicle including the driver only identified as Brian are admitted at the facility in a critical condition.

According to Odoi, Rukutana polled 25310 votes (46.27 %) beating his closest rival, Naome Kabasharira who garnered 25290 votes (46.23%). Bob Nahabwe came third with 2270 votes followed by Nicholas Niwahereza with 1229 votes, Norman Beigana Kashereka 350 votes and Elia Bwagara Mwesigwa 256 votes.
Rukutana petitioned against the declaration and on this basis, Dr Tanga Odoi, the chairperson of NRM party electoral commission suspended the results and ordered for a recount. On September 15, Dr Odoi hinted that the recount had given Rukutana an edge over Kabasharira with a difference of 20 votes.
The recount presided over by the chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party-Electoral Commission Dr Tanga Odoi follows a petition filed by Rukutana challenging the outcome that gave victory to his political nemesis Naome Kabasharira.

The attack came shortly after the disappearance of the keys to the district administration block, which left hundreds of officers stranded for several hours on Wednesday morning.
