Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, confirmed the detention of the suspected criminals to Uganda Radio Network. Hakiza explained that these operations were authorized due to a surge in reported cases concerning assaults on residents, including pedestrians and motorists.
The suspects were arrested from Kiryatete East, a suburb of Hoima city following complaints from area residents especially the business community regarding the escalating thefts and attacks by suspected criminals in the area.
Allan Ssempebwa, the spokesperson Uganda National Roads Authority-UNRA told Uganda Radio Network in an interview on Tuesday evening that a team of UNRA officials including engineers and technical team is currently on ground inspecting, assessing and monitoring the water levels on the flooded bridge.
The River Kafu serves as the border between the Hoima and Kyankwanzi districts. The river overflowed on Monday evening around 5 p.m. disrupting transportation in the area. This occurred after prolonged heavy rainfall on Sunday, lasting for over 7 hours.
The operation followed complaints from residents, especially the business community in the areas of Lusaka, Bujumbura, Kiryatete and Kiganda, all suburbs of Hoima city about rampant thefts and attacks by the suspected criminals in several parts of the city.

According to Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, Asaba informed his family members that his captors were demanding a ransom of 310,000 Shillings for his release, threatening harm otherwise.
The officials are Amir Nsamo, the Chairperson Hoima City Service Commission, Ahamad Mugisa, the Secretary to the Service Commission, Donald Bategeka, and Ibrahim Bigabwa both members of the commission.
