Mulawa is reported to have traveled to Moroto district with other livestock dealers in March 2022. It is alleged that while in Moroto, unidentified people convinced him to join the gold and mercury business.

He stresses that the suspect together with others still at large would also snatch money and handbags from women at gunpoint.
The Busoga East Police Commander, Anatolli Katungwesi says that they tracked down the suspects in their hideouts in the outskirts of Iganga town. He, however, says that the prime suspect is still at large.
